SankhyaSutra Labs showcases Made-in-India Software for Aerospace and Defence at Drone Festival of India 2022

SankhyaSutra Labs, a Bengaluru-based subsidiary of Jio Platforms Ltd that makes high-fidelity multi-physics and aerodynamics simulation software, is showcasing its products and solutions at the Drone Festival of India 2022, being held on May 27-28 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. It has planned a major product launch in October this year.

Through its indigenously developed state-of-the-art software tools for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), SankhyaSutra aims to promote the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, especially in the area of deep technology. Its software has key applications primarily in the aerospace and defence equipment industries; in addition to automotive, semiconductor manufacturing, and process industries; in multiple phases of product lifecycle such as design, operation and maintenance.

“When we speak about self-reliance in defence, we often tend to focus on the ability to manufacture various hardware components indigenously. However, this journey towards self-reliance would be incomplete without indigenous design tools, which are the key enablers of this journey. At SankhyaSutra, we are developing deep technology for India and the world,” Dr Sunil Sherlekar, CEO at SankhyaSutra Labs, said in a statement.

Achieving accurate simulation of turbulent flows — often required in aerospace and defence designing — is a challenging task due to the involvement of multiple scales of swirling motions, also known as vortices. Classical CFD tools try to address this challenge by deploying approximate models for turbulence. SankhyaSutra Labs, on the other hand, utilises concepts from Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science to develop next-generation high-fidelity CFD tools that do not use approximate turbulence models.

“Accurate and reliable simulations can potentially reduce the need for expensive and time-consuming experiments, such as wind tunnel experiments, which are used in the designing of aircrafts. This could make aircraft designing faster and cheaper and allow exploration of unconventional and radically new design alternatives. That’s the power of technology!” Dr Vinay Kariwala, VP Business Development at SankhyaSutra Labs, explains.

CFD involves the use of digital twins of products and processes in the analysis of flow patterns of fluids and other physical phenomena and their impact on design. It has wide-ranging applications in the industry. For example, accurate aerodynamic simulations conducted using a digital twin of an aircraft or automobile can allow streamlining the body to reduce fuel consumption. Similarly, the overall yield of a bioreactor can be enhanced by analysing flow patterns through simulations.
