JMI organizes Distinguished Lecture on the Role of Power Electronics in Green Technology by Prof. S K Panda, Fellow- IEEE


IEEE Power Electronics Society Student Chapter-Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi organized an online Distinguished Lecture on the Role of Power Electronics in Green Technology by Prof. S K Panda on May 6, 2022 on the topic “Single Phase Inverter Control Techniques for Interfacing Renewable Energy Sources”. Prof. Panda said that climate change is a big threat for the humankind.
The same can be countered by reducing our dependence on fossil fuel to eliminate carbon emission and by switching over to renewable sources of energy.Prof. Panda also emphasized that India has a huge potential to use renewable energy sources for electricity generation.
As per Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India’s technical report, India has potential to generate 750 GW electricity from Solar energy.Prof. S K Panda is M.Tech graduate from IT- BHU, India and Ph.D. from University of Cambridge UK. He is Fellow of IEEE and working as Professor and Director of Power and Energy Research area at National University of Singapore.
Around 100 participants attended the lecture. These participants were from various educational institutes of India and abroad.The IEEE JMI Student branch and PELS Student chapter members planned and conducted this programme. Ms. Maryam Usman anchored the event.
Mr. Anirudh, Ms. Sara Mr. Sarfaraz and other team members worked to make this event successful.Earlier Dr. Ahteshamul Haque- Faculty Advisor of PELS Student Chapter and Branch Counsellor IEEE-JMI introduced the speaker.Prof. Munna Khan-Head, Department of Electrical Engineering welcomed the speaker and other participants.
He appreciated the efforts of IEEE Power Electronics Society Student Chapter-JMI for organizing the Distinguished Lecture on such an important topic.Prof. Panda also interacted with participants and answered their queries.
