Meesho brings more than 75,000 small businesses from Rajasthan online
Jaipur, August 04, 2022: Meesho, India’s fastest growing internet commerce company, announced that more than 75,000 small businesses from the state of Rajasthan are now registered on the platform.
An increasing number of MSMEs from Rajasthan have joined Meesho in the past year as a result of the company’s industry-first initiatives such as zero commision and zero penalty. Top categories preferred by suppliers in the region include apparel, jewellery, personal care & wellness, consumer electronics and home décor.
Since inception, Meesho has played a vital role in supporting and enabling SMBs across the country, especially those from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The total number of sellers on the platform has crossed 7 lakh, with registrations growing twice as fast as last year.
Meesho has been instrumental in digitising MSMEs, allowing them to tap into a much larger and diverse customer base and grow their earnings. Since January 2021, ~1.2 lakh small business owners have become lakhpatis while over 8,000 have become crorepatis . On average, sellers on Meesho have seen their business grow by 82% in two years. Nearly 50% of all Meesho sellers hail from tier 2+ cities such as Amritsar, Rajkot and Tiruppur, underlining the company’s mission to democratise internet commerce for everyone.
Commenting on this growth, Lakshminarayan Swaminathan, CXO, Supply Growth at Meesho, said, “To support the flourishing entrepreneurial spirit of our country, Meesho is building a robust platform to help small businesses grow and succeed online. With our industry-first initiatives such as zero commission and zero penalty, an increasing number of MSMEs have chosen to partner with us. We have observed a 2X rise in the number of sellers on-boarded on our platform from Rajasthan this year as compared to 2021.
Today, we are the only platform that does not differentiate sellers on the basis of tiers, nor do we have a private label or wholesale play”
Jaipur-based Sarika Agarwal, who sells artificial jewellery on Meesho, says, “With my husband’s encouragement and support, I started this business to help supplement our income. Little did I expect that this would eventually transform into a flourishing business. Meesho’s zero-commission model helps me maintain my pricing while ensuring exponential growth. Women face unique challenges while starting a business but I hope I can inspire more women to overcome these obstacles and chase their dreams.”
Meesho was the first Indian company to launch an integrated e-commerce mobile app for customers and sellers as part of its efforts to drive the digitisation of small businesses in the country. Through this app, sellers can manage their businesses better, whether it’s order processing, payment tracking or inventory management.
In a bid to democratise internet commerce for everybody, the company wants to ensure the transition from offline to online is simple and seamless.
