Release of Kannada Workbook of Financial Education and Investment Awareness
Mumbai, 17 March 2023: Shri. Thawar Chand Gehlot – Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka and Shri. Ashishkumar Chauhan – MD & CEO, NSE, released a Kannada workbook on ‘Financial Education and Investment Awareness’, in Bengaluru, on 14th March, 2023.
NSE Academy, in association with Karnataka State Higher Education Council, is imparting financial management skills to the youth of Karnataka. In July 2022, NSE Academy signed an MOU with the Council and MOAs with 20 state universities of Karnataka for financial education of college students. Accordingly, a 45-hour ‘Financial Education and Investment Awareness’ life skill course is integrated into the curriculum of all second-year UG students of the 20 universities. Over 4 lakh students are learning the concepts of finance through classroom sessions and self-paced online content. The classroom sessions are handled by over 2500 faculty members trained by NSE Academy. The self-paced online content is administered through NSE Academy LMS.
The course content, developed by NSE Academy with inputs from Commerce Curriculum Committee of Karnataka and various industry bodies, is in English. To break the language barrier and to reach out to all segments of students, NSE Academy developed a Kannada version of the course workbook.
The Kannada workbook was released jointly by the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka, and MD & CEO of NSE. The book release event was hosted at the Karnataka State Higher Education Council in Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, on 14th March 2023.Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka said: “National efforts are being made by different countries to foster cultural and linguistic diversity. The inclusion of languages in the digital world and the creation of inclusive learning content is vital. Remote learning based on the mother tongue should be incorporated into education systems. Empowering the young generation by continuously updating their skills with focus on value-based education in the mother tongue alongside Life skills like Financial education will facilitate in building a new India”.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Ashishkumar Chauhan – MD & CEO, NSE said: “Research shows that education in the mother tongue is a key factor for inclusion and quality learning, and it also improves learning outcomes and academic performance. The vision of promoting financial inclusion through an inclusive financial education is a vital step in this direction.”
The event was a part of the Governor’s Summit of VCs of State Public Universities that was organized in the theme of ‘higher education in regional languages’. Chamu Krishnashastri – Secretary, Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Shri. S.R. Uma Shankar IAS – Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education), Government of Karnataka, Prof. Buddha Chandrashekhar – Chief Coordinating Officer, AICTE, Shri. Gopal Krishna Joshi – Executive Director, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Shri. Ranganathan S – Chief Manager, NSE Academy, Shri. Hari K – Business Head, National Stock Exchange, Hon’ble Vice Chancellors of the state universities of Karnataka, officials from UGC, AICTE, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, NSE and NSE Academy, and other dignitaries attended the event.
