Rajasthan based manufacturer raided for trademark and copyright infringement of Goodknight Products
Jaipur, 11 October, 2022: Goodknight, a market leader in the household insecticide category from the house of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), has recently taken action against Hirak Industries that has allegedly been manufacturing colorable imitation of Goodknight Gold Flash, India’s most powerful liquid vaporizer. Hirak Industries named the product as ‘PROTECT GOLD PLUS’ with the identical packaging. GCPL had instituted a suit in the Bombay High Court for the copyright and trademark infringement and got the order on 15th September, 2022.The Court Receiver along with the help from the State Police department in Rajasthan and Odisha have initiated action against Hirak Industries.
The Additional special receivers visited Hirak’s factory in Udaipur, Rajasthan and warehouse unit in Jatni Odisha on the 29th of September ’22 for a joint raid action. The raid at the Jatni warehouse resulted in the seizure of around 4000 Gold Plus Liquid Vaporizer refills and other packaging material, whereas the raid in the Udaipur factory led to a seizure of around 35000 outer cartons of Gold Plus Liquid Vaporizer refills and huge quantities of packaging material. The Suit will proceed against the parties in the Bombay High Court.
Commenting on the issue, Somasree Bose Awasthi, Chief Marketing Officer, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), said, “The spread of counterfeits products across the country is a major concern for the FMCG industry. Counterfeits or look alike products lead to lower sales for the company and revenue loss. Such products are not only illegal, but also harmful and hazardous to human health and leads to a compromised experience to the consumers. Godrej Consumer invests a significant part of its revenue to develop innovative products that continue to serve customers better and Goodknight, a market leader in the home insecticide category, is one such example. We regularly undertake quality checks of our products through a collaboration with our distribution network, local authorities and consumers. This initiative with the State police authorities will reprimand local manufacturers of duplicate Goodknight products in the state
In light of the fake Goodknight refills available in the market, people need to be cautious about the cheap products and should purchase the products only with the genuine sales invoice.
