 “Digital Twin Technology is Not an Innovation But a Necessity for The Future of Supply Chains” – Says Director of IIM Sambalpur

Sambalpur, February 12th 2025– IIM Sambalpur, a premier management institution known for its innovation and inclusivity, successfully hosted the National Seminar on Supply Chain Digital Twin in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi at its campus. The two-day national seminar explored the transformative role of Digital Twin technology in Supply Chain Management and Industry 4.0, further fostering industry-academia collaboration through knowledge sharing among academicians, industry experts, and research scholars. The event witnessed two technical sessions and 54 paper presentations in a hybrid mode, spread across nine thematic tracks, with the contributions of faculty members, scholars, and industry experts at the national level.

It is important to note that a digital twin in supply chain management is a virtual model that uses real-time data to simulate a supply chain. It can help businesses understand their supply chain, predict issues, and make better decisions. The event also provided a platform for discussing emerging trends, research findings, and real-world applications of Digital Twin technology to enhance operational resilience, real-time decision-making, and supply chain efficiency.

The thought-provoking event was kick-started by the inaugural address by Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, who said, “Digital Twin technology is not just an innovation but a necessity for the future of supply chains that means the future of supply chain is digital. It enables real-time decision-making, enhances operational resilience, and drives efficiency in an increasingly complex global market. At IIM Sambalpur, we are committed to equipping our students with the expertise to harness this transformative technology and become leaders in the digital economy”.

Satish Pandey, Siemens’ Chief Customer Officer—Maldives & Sri Lanka; Ameya Date, Global Product Manager, Siemens Singapore; Prof. Ramakrushna Padhy, Chair, National Seminar, IIM Sambalpur; Gaurav Kataria, VP Digital & CDIO, ITC Ltd; Sandeep Chittora, Technical Director, KPMG India; and Sanket Puranik, Tech Sales Advisor, Kongsberg Digita were also present.

The two-day event was concluded with a valedictory session vote of thanks from the Seminar Chair, Prof. R.K. Padhy, IIM Sambalpur.
